RODRIGO TAFUR

Arequipa, Peru 1990
Lives and works
in Brooklyn, New York

Rodrigo Tafur is a peruvian artist. His practice encompasses a variety of mediums, including oil paints, acrylics, and self-made graphite oil, on surfaces such as wood panels, canvas, paper, and burlap.

His recent body of work draws inspiration from everyday surfaces, memories, and experiences, while incorporating a psychological exploration of anxiety and obsession. These abstract concepts are integral to his artistic process and life, transforming personal insights into a visual experience. His colorful paintings evoke a unique form of abstract pointillism, creating an engaging interplay of illusion and contrast. This approach allows viewers to experience a dynamic, flickering effect, while his deliberate avoidance of figures and symbols keeps the focus on materiality and sensory engagement rather than narrative.

Rodrigo earned his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Universidad Católica del Perú and a Master’s degree from Pratt Institute in New York, graduating with honors and receiving the Pratt Circle Award and the Academic Excellence Award in 2023. He has participated in well-known art residencies, including Vermont Studio Center, Mana Contemporary, Mudhouse Art, and CopeNYC, and has exhibited his work in Peru, Mexico, and the United States.
